The tumeric is a flowering plant of the ginger family Zingiberaceae. The roots of the plant are used a lot in cooking and has a very strong and spicy taste. The ground powder of the roots are used in curry and dye. Turmeric powder has a warm, bitter, black pepper-like flavor and earthy, mustard-like aroma.
To thrive, the plant needs a warm climate (20-30 degrees celcius) and a good amount of rainfall.
