Our Mange tout peas are grown in Zimbabwe. Many cultivars reach maturity about 60 days after planting. The season in Zimbabwe is from mid-April until mid-October. The pea is a green, pod-shaped fruit. The membranous string running along the top of the pod from base to tip is removed (top & tailed) Generally peas are grown outdoors, not in greenhouses with the plants growing best at temperature of 13 - 18 °C. They do not thrive in the summer heat of warmer temperature and lowland tropical climates but do grow well in cooler high altitude tropical areas during the dry winter season.
Sugar Snap peas:
Differ from Mange tout peas in that their pods are round as opposed to flat. Sugar Snap peas like other peas are a pod fruit. The membranous string running along the top of the pod from base to tip is removed (top & tailed). The soft and tender pods of Sugar Snap peas are crisp and sweet. Product has become very popular for wok style stir fries cooking methods.
